  Ants on the pavement
Ants on the pavement,
I feel that I could lick them up
like a lizard
the sun is on me
hot stones and sticks

I could stretch out and pant
with small smooth stomach moves

I could cock my head still
eyes unblinking and still
but for my small pants
and stomach moves

a statue in grey
with one black eye on you
and still my one small thin fingered
hand move, one half inch towards
or away - uncertain the best move,
but thinking - still-ly - that some
small move must be made

while always the one eye is
catched on you until - with a fleet
invisible step - gone - the rock
behind, pulsing with heat and sun
